POTTSVILLE — The Pottsville Apaches won its final 4A-4 Conference game of the season on Friday with a 9-2 win over the Dover Pirates at the Pottsville Ball Fields.
Pottsville finished the regular season with a 13-1 record and as 4A-4 Conference champions.
In the top of the first, Dover scored on a walk, a sacrifice bunt and a single to go up 1-0. The Apaches answered in the fourth when Cache Linker singled, Mason Huie singled, Huie stole second and Ben Jones hit a two-RBI single and took second on the throw home.
Kaleb Tramel hit a fly ball that was misfielded to push Jones across the plate, and Tramel moved to second on the throw home. Tramel later scored on an error on a hit by Drew Johnson to put Pottsville up 4-1.
In the fifth, Rylee Huie led off with a home run. Matthew Moore singled, stole second and scored on Konner Carpenter’s single. Carpenter moved to second on the throw home and scored on a ground out to make it 7-1.
In the sixth, Jones walked, Tramel walked and both advanced on a passed ball. Moore had an RBI ground out, and Carpenter hit an RBI single to set the final score.
Carpenter was the winning pitcher. He gave up one run on five hits and walked four.
He struck out seven in six innings. Mason Huie recorded the save. He gave up one run on a balk call, walked two and threw one wild pitch. He struck out three.
Dawson Branch was the starting pitcher for Dover. He went four innings, allowed eight hits and seven runs. He walked none. Lucas Vickers threw two innings in relief.
The Apaches and Pirates begin the 4A-4 District Tournament this week.
